Where do these exchange rates come from?
Rates are European Central Bank reference rates supplied through the Frankfurter API. They show the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on global currency markets, which is the rate banks use between themselves before adding their markup.
How often are rates updated?
Rates are refreshed every 30 minutes. Currency markets move constantly, so treat the rate shown as a close approximation rather than a guaranteed price.
Why is this rate different from what my bank offers?
Banks and exchange bureaux typically add a markup of 2–5% on top of the mid-market rate. The rate shown here is the real rate — what you'd get with a service like Wise that doesn't add a markup.
Can I use this for large transfers?
