Eswatini uses the Swazi lilangeni (SZL), which is pegged at parity with the South African rand; rand notes are also widely accepted throughout the country. Card payments are available at hotels, larger restaurants, and supermarkets in Mbabane and Manzini, but smaller businesses, markets, and rural establishments typically operate on a cash-only basis. It is advisable to carry sufficient lilangeni or rand when travelling outside the main urban centres.

The majority of visits to Eswatini pass without incident, and the country receives several hundred thousand tourists each year. Petty theft can occur in crowded markets and urban areas, and travellers are advised to take standard precautions with valuables and to avoid isolated areas after dark. Road travel at night carries additional risks due to occasional reports of carjackings on major routes.

Shared minibus taxis, known locally as kombis, are the most common form of public transport, operating on fixed routes between towns and departing when full. Manzini's main rank serves as the central interchange for intercity routes across the country. Hiring a car gives greater flexibility, particularly for reaching national parks and nature reserves, and foreign driving licences are generally recognised for short-stay visitors.

The dry winter months from May to September offer the most comfortable conditions for wildlife viewing and hiking, with cooler temperatures, clear skies, and sparser vegetation that makes spotting animals easier. The summer wet season from October to March brings lush green landscapes and excellent birdlife, though afternoon thunderstorms are common. May also hosts the popular Bushfire Festival, a major performing arts event, while the Umhlanga Reed Dance takes place in late August or early September.

SiSwati and English are the two official languages of Eswatini, and English is widely used in government, business, education, and tourism contexts. Most travellers can navigate daily interactions comfortably in English across hotels, restaurants, and major attractions. Learning a few words of siSwati, such as 'Sawubona' (hello) and 'Ngiyabonga' (thank you), is appreciated by local people.

Travellers should ensure routine vaccinations are up to date, and hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus cover is generally recommended before visiting. Malaria is present in the low-lying areas, particularly the Lubombo lowveld in the east, and appropriate precautions should be taken when visiting those regions. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission.
