Le Morne Brabant
Rising 556 metres from the southwestern tip of the island, Le Morne Brabant is a dramatic basalt peninsula inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 for its powerful cultural associations with runaway enslaved people who sought refuge on its steep cliffs during the 17th and 18th centuries. The mountain now symbolises resistance against slavery for Mauritius and the broader African diaspora, and is framed by turquoise lagoons that make it one of the most photographed landscapes in the Indian Ocean.

More than 60 kilometres of marked trails wind through dense forest to viewpoints, waterfalls, and Piton de la Petite Riviere Noire, the island's highest peak at 828 metres. It offers a compelling contrast to the coastal resort experience.

No specific vaccinations are legally required for most visitors, though travellers arriving from a yellow fever zone must present a valid yellow fever certificate. Routine vaccinations including hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus are generally recommended by travel health professionals prior to departure.
Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service. In restaurants, leaving around 10 per cent of the bill is a common gesture, and rounding up taxi fares or leaving a small tip for hotel staff is well received.
